Visualize wall and floor temperature with Grasshopper

Post by yangshaoqi »

Hello ENVI-met team,
I have the following questions to consult:

First, when I use ENVI-met to simulate the temperature of the building wall, how can I visualize the wall temperature and the ground temperature on a picture at the same time, showing a 3D effect(picture 1), which seems to be impossible with Leonardo. (I found that Grasshopper can do it, but I haven't tried it yet. Can I use Grasshopper to read the results of envi-met directly? What should I do?

There is another small problem. After the space modeling is completed, is there any way to print out a 3D Model like picture 2 (method without screenshots).

Thank you for your patience and look forward to your answer!
Yang

Hi Yang,

Yes, it is possible to read EDT/EDX files using Grasshopper directly.
There are two ways:
  • Morpho: It has components to read EDT/EDX files.
  • Dragonfly envimet components (df_envimet): It has components to read EDT/EDX and DAT. But there are some small bugs to fix when DEM is part of the model.
Here is an example file with Morpho that you can find on GitHub. In this example I read also the air flow that I display with a couple of native components of Grasshopper.

It is not possible shows the voxel model like Space can do. It is possible to:
  • Display the facades of a detailed 3d envimet model using Dragonfly envimet components (df_envimet).

for now. A possible method to have a nice representation is to mix the grid results of envi met with the Rhinodoc objects that you used to create the model (closed breps, point3D, curves and so on).

Best,
Antonello

Thank you for your kind reply. I am a rookie to rhino and grasshopper.

Can the EDT / EDX results simulated by envi met software be displayed directly in rhino, or do I need to draw models in rhino by myself?

Could you give me a simple example? The operation in YouTube is too fast for me to keep up with.

Thank you so muuch!

Best regards,
Yang

Hi Yang,

Yes, Rhino/Grasshopper shows geometries and values direclty. You do not need to draw them manually.
You only need to install also Ladybug[+] or Ladybug Legacy if you do not want to create a small workflow to color the surfaces.

Some examples for Morpho are in the repo. You could start from them.
Requirements:
- Rhino 6
- Ladybug [+] or Ladybug Legacy to speed up the construction of legends and color scheme

here is the link where you can donwload it:

Hi Antonello,

I installed morpho according to the instructions of "readme.txt" at your GitHub. It appears when I restart grasshopper, but this error message appears when I use it.

Did I install it wrong?

Best regards,
Yang

Hi Yang,

could you open one of the existing example and provide a screenshot of it?

E.g. \examples\grasshopper\04_modeling_simulation_results

Hi Yang,

it seems to be a problem with installation.

Could you check if you have following DLLs in

Code: Select all

%appdata%
Morpho folder?
1.PNG
1.PNG (2.18 KiB) Viewed 23 times
If you forgot to unblock the zip file you have to make sure that every DLL is unblocked. Right click on it, and choose Properties. If there is an Unblock button click on it

Hi Antonello,
Yes,it is the installation error because some DLL file was deleted.

I read my results according to your example 5, including the wall and surface temperature. I would like they use a same color legend, but it seems there are some mistakes as my picture shows.

Here are my gh file, 3DM file and EDT file as rar file. I think it's the problem of display setting. Please check it for me. Thank you!

Best,
Yang
