Specific humidity variation

Postby Jeff » Mon Oct 01, 2018 5:38 pm

Dear Sir,

Kindly find attached the map of the absolute difference of the specific humidity between initial model and a same model with high albedo pavements and road (we replaced the asphalt albedo 0.2 by red asphalt with albedo 0.5).

How can we explain the decrease of the specific humidity in the maps results? It is expected that no change in the specific humidity because only we changed the albedo value of the raod and pavements.

You reply is highly appreciated.

Regards.

This is almost nothing in difference- be careful not to overinterprer model data.
However- if you change the albedo the surface temperature will change and this is change the vertical mixing in the atmosphere. So if you have different humidity at different levels you will see changes when cutting at a given z-level

Thank you Micheal,

So the change in specific humidity is due to change in the surface temperature?

Regards.

Probably due to the increased mixing..
But in a holistic model there are many aspects that can cause that little changes

I didn't understand what is the increased mixing?

Hmm well, you need to work yourself a bit into boundary layer meteorology I think..
